Dr. Phil McGraw recently signed a five-year extension with his show's distributors, King World Productions, keeping him on the airwaves through the 2013-2014 TV season.
Dr. Phil was hired by Oprah Winfrey in 1996 to prepare her for a trial. She was so impressed with McGraw that she invited him to appear on her show. His appearance proved to be very successful and he later began making a weekly appearance as a Relationship and Life Strategy Expert.
In 2002, Winfrey's Harpo studios produced him his own syndicated daily TV show where he offers advice for his guests' troubles. McGraw has also authored many self-help books on topics such as relationships and weight loss.
McGraw graduated with a B.A. in psychology in 1975. He also earned his Master's degree in experimental psychology and a Doctorate degree in clinical psychology.
McGraw has been parodied in season #35 of Sesame Street and in 2003 he appeared on the Frasier episode "The Devil and Dr. Phil" as himself. He also held a role in Scary Movie 4, where he parodies the movie Saw. In 2005, McGraw aligned with the dating service Match.com.
